ANNUAL HYDROLOGICAL ASSEMBLY WAS HELD WITH EUSDR PA4 AND PA5 PARTICIPATION

The Hungarian Hydrological Society organised its 34th Assembly in 6-8th of July 2016, in Debrecen. The event is the largest annual meeting of the water management sector in Hungary and also opened for international participants.

In the frame of the three-day’s meeting more than 400 experts participated aiming at to get familiar with the actual water related research results, project achievements as well as with water management related activities. In the frame of the event altogether more than 200 presentations were held in 11 sections andthe priority areas focusing on ’water quality’ and ’environmental risks’ (PA4 and PA5) have also introduced their ongoing works and the EUSDR embedding process.

Two workshops of the conference got high attendance, where participants discussed the challenges of water scarcity in relation with climate change adaptation and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, latter chaired by Global Water Partnership. In the frame of the second workshop the Integrated Tisza River Basin Management Planning process has also been introduced.

In 2017 the Hungarian Hydrological Society celebrates its centennial with a series of events. The parallel rotating EUSDR presidency of Hungary will ensure good possibilities for cooperation e.g. in frame of the next Assembly, which will be held in Mosonmagyaróvár, a unique area of the Danube River Basin.
