LAREDAR – Lakes and Reservoirs in the Danube River Basin – “Towards coordinated actions of lakes and reservoirs management to reduce flood risks in the Danube River Basin”

LAREDAR focuses on the role of lakes and reservoirs in reducing flood risks across the Danube River Basin. The project aims to improve coordinated, catchment-level water management by analysing how reservoirs influence floods and droughts, particularly along transboundary river sections. Through investigations in pilot regions, LAREDAR is expected to generate new insights and identify good practices supporting flood prevention, drought management, and sustainable river basin management.

The project will deliver a transnational manual, a GIS-based harmonisation platform, and operational guidance for authorities and decision-makers. These outputs are expected to support data sharing, joint forecasting, and coordinated actions between upstream and downstream countries. By strengthening cooperation and proposing multi-beneficial solutions, LAREDAR will contribute to improved reservoir operation, enhanced flood preparedness, and more effective responses to flood and drought risks throughout the Danube River Basin.
