DRP – MicroDrink

Image module

The MicroDrink project addresses the growing challenge of microplastic pollution in drinking water resources across the Danube River Basin. Microplastics have been detected in surface water and groundwater used for drinking water supply, yet knowledge gaps remain regarding their monitoring, risks and management. The project aims to improve understanding of microplastic occurrence and support coordinated action to protect water quality and public health in the region.

Co-funded by the Interreg Danube Region Programme, MicroDrink brings together partners from several Danube countries to strengthen governance, build capacity and harmonise approaches to microplastic monitoring and prevention. By developing an open-access knowledge base, supporting pilot actions and engaging stakeholders, the project helps decision-makers and practitioners prepare for future challenges and contributes to safer and more resilient drinking water systems.
