We are pleased to announce the third edition of our annual online stream featuring a renowned Danube Region Scientist — Dr. Attila Dávid Molnár.
🗓 Date: Monday, 3 November 2025
🕓 Time: 14:00 CET
💬 Topic: How did I turn into a Plastic Pirate?
Join us for an inspiring discussion as Dr. Molnár explores how scientific curiosity and environmental awareness intertwine in addressing one of today’s most pressing challenges – plastic pollution. This online event is organized in cooperation with Priority Area 4 : Water Quality, Priority Area 7: Knowledge Society, and the Danube Strategy Point.
Dr. Attila David Molnar is a Hungarian environmental scientist and activist, best known as co-founder of the Plastic Cup Initiative (also known as PET Kupa). He leads the Initiative’s River Monitoring Unit, where his work merges scientific research, citizen science, and riverine plastic pollution mitigation across the Tisza-Danube basin.
Dr. Molnár has co-authored policy guidance documents on riverine plastic pollution, contributed to large EU-funded programs such as Tid(y)Up and Aquatic Plastic, and founded community-based monitoring, clean‐ups, and awareness projects.
He combines field work (waste-collection, mapping, monitoring), policy advocacy, public education and capacity building. He bridges grassroots organizing with scientific rigor to promote long-term, systemic solutions for river and plastic pollution.
