WORLD WATER DAY – 22 MARCH 2016
22 March – World Water Day
2016 – Water and Jobs
22 March has been assigned to celebrate internationally our waters, to turn towards this unique resource of our life and to take actions to do things better. World Water Day originates in 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development where an international celebration for water was suggested. 22 March 1993 was the first World Water Day and it has been held annually since then.
The year 2016 has been nominated for ‘water and job’ considering that “today, almost half of the world’s workers – 1.5 billion people – work in water related sectors and nearly all jobs depend on water and those that ensure its safe delivery.” (http://www.unwater.org/worldwaterday).
