Shared Vision Planning Pilot Methodology and Stakeholders’ workshop
On 24 May 2018 a JOINTISZA Shared Vision Planning Pilot Methodology and Stakeholders’ workshop on Pilot on climate change induced specific water quantity issues was organised with the participation of more than 70 experts from Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, Romania, USA and Italy.
Following Attila Lovas (Director of the Middle-Tisza District Water Directorate) welcome speech, Ad de Roo from the Joint Research Centre (JRC) introduced the results of „The Water-Energy-Flood-Environment Nexus – Future Scenarios for the Danube River Basin” with special focus on water resources. He called the attention in his presentation that in case the countries do not stick to the Paris Agreement, which was adopted in December 2015, than flood events will increase and low flow events will even be more extreme. Water scarcity problems will become worst. He concluded that in case we do not stick to the Paris Agreement our situation in the Danube River Basin will really get worse including the Tisza (increasing flood, water scarcity, water shortage problems). He advised to look and investigate on the extreme years (potential crop failure and serious lack of water). Mr Fehér highlighted that JRC results can be utilised in the development of the pilot study to be developed for the Tisza River Basin.
One of the core, one-our section was held by the experts of US Army Corp of Engineers, Hal Cardwell and Rich Gifaldi. Their presentations were focusing on the summary of lessons learnt from the 1st Shared Vision Planning pilot methodology and stakeholders workshop held in October 2017. Hal Cardwell highlighted the importance of the stakeholder involvement in the technical analysis. The idea behind was, he stressed, that water resources works as a system, and during the analysis the involved people can understand how the system works.
The workshop was continued with the presentation on the pilot activity, what was introduced by Dávid Vizi, modelling team member of Middle-Tisza Region Water Directorate. The workshop continued with discussion with the involvement of participating expert.
