Celebrating Danube Day in Ukraine – Colleague of EUSDR PA4 and PLASTIC PIRATES presented
On the 30th June 2018 Kvasovo – a small village in Ukraine, on the Borzhava River Basin – celebrated the Danube Day and invited to the event the EUSDR PA4 colleagues and the Hungarian Plastic Pirates (more: PLASTIC CUP). The Ukrainian organiser, Ms Olena Marushevska arranged a competition of Pirates’
Plastic Regatta on the Borzhava river, where schools’ teams or individual children built from plastic waste “pirate ships”. The show started with children’ plays (singing, puppet show, dancing presentations) and continued with the introduction of the Hungarian PET CUP by the representatives, Miklós Gyalai-Korpos, who introduced the Hungarian large scale event, where more than 200 people come together to clean the Upper Tisza floodplain areas from plastic waste. He also mentioned that 2018 will be the first year when an international boat the “JOINTISZA” boat will also compete with experts arriving from nice different countries all over the World. The “JOINTISZA” boat will be launced and supported by the DTP-JOINTISZA project and organised with EUSDR PA4 and PA4 experts together with PLASTIC CUP organisation.
In the afternoon the pirate ships were evaluated and were awarded according to level of creativity, environmental message and amount of ‘treasure’ transported – and by treasure, the organiser mean plastic.
The event was closed with a fireshow.
