The document takes into account previous and current activities to restore fish migration and serves as a knowledge base for the design and construction of fish passes in the Danube River. It contains an overview of strategic documents in the field of fish pass construction, a description of river ecosystems and types of behaviour of migratory fish species, an overview of Danube ichthyocenoses, case studies for Gabčíkovo and a proposal for the way forward. Enabling fish migration in the Danube is a key aspect of the conservation and restoration of the environment and biodiversity, which includes endangered fish species, especially sturgeons.
